 Lyme disease is a remnant of Cold War biological weapons development that was created and tested across multiple facilities across the US, from Maryland to Montana. They would later deploy the ticks from cardboard boxes from planes across Cuba and Central America. The locals would call this new disease Havana Fever before it was "discovered" by Dr. Willy Burgdorfer (who really developed it for the US military). He wasn't paid well by the US, so he sold it to the Russians, who then released it in Connecticut and Switzerland.
